Carrie's Story and Photos Carrie's Story Photos of Carrie

On June 4, 1975, Carrie Dixon-Cook was born in Oklahoma City, OK. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary's Catholic High School in 1993. She went to play softball at Barton County Junior College. After Barton, Carrie attended UCO, were she graduated receiving her Bachelor's Degree. After college, Carrie went to work for Mazzio's Corporation as the training coordinator for their Zio's Italian Kitchen concept. She married her soul mate David Cook on December 27, 2002, her long time friend since Jr. High.

Carrie was acknowledge for excellence in academics and athletics during her Jr. and Sr. high years by the following awards: Oklahoma Honor Society, National Honor Society, Academic All-American, FCA Athlete of the Year, Basketball Homecoming Queen, All-State Softball Catcher, "I Dare You" Danforth Award, and was a three sport Varsity letterman starting with her Freshman year of high school. One of Carrie's favorite hobbies was playing golf. Although she was a much better softball player, Carrie always enjoyed challenging her husband, David Cook, father, John Dixon, and brother, Scott Dixon, to a round of golf.

Carrie was diagnosed with "soft-tissue sarcoma" in November of 1999. The cancer started out in her left leg. After having surgery on the leg, massive doses of chemotherapy, and weeks of radiation; she went into remission. One year of being cancer free had gone by when the cancer had spread from the leg to the lungs. The doctors discovered a tumor in her left lung the size of a racket ball. They decided to perform a risky surgery which involved removing three quarters of the lung. She was in the hospital 6-8 weeks before healing from the surgery. Soon after the surgery, Carrie was transferred to Oklahoma City, OK for her job; this was in late fall of 2001. While living in Oklahoma City, she continued doses of chemotherapy treating the lungs. In February of 2002, Carrie was given the bad news.the cancer had spread into the brain. Due to the brain cancer; Carrie went through three weeks of full brain radiation. After receiving the radiation, Carrie traveled to Evanston, Illinois to receive treatments from Block Medical Center. At Block Medical Center the doctors helped Carrie fight the cancer with traditional, physical and dietary methods. She was given a very strict dietary plan including many vitamins and dietary supplements. In April of 2002, Zio's Italian Kitchen moved Carrie to Tulsa, OK to be based out of their corporate office. Although living in Tulsa, Carrie traveled to Oklahoma City to recieve chemotherapy treatments. Carrie also made it a point to use prayer and her faith to guide her in the battle against cancer. She commented often that without her faith and prayers she would not have been able to battle the cancer with the same strength.

In July of 2002, David asked Carrie to be his wife. On December 27, 2002, they were wed at St. James Catholic Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Carrie was able to take a break from chemotherapy for a couple of months before the wedding, which had been keeping the cancer in check. A few weeks after returning home from the honeymoon, Carrie started chemotherapy again. She continued to use prayer and her faith to fight the cancer until seven months after being wed; she succumbed to the disease on July 21, 2003. Carrie is a true example of a fighter and a most beautiful person. She is the best wife, sister, daughter, grandchild, and friend that anyone could ask for.

Carrie, we will miss you and love you always.

This foundation is in memory of you and all the greatness your life embodied.
